Job Title:  Paediatric Occupational Therapist
Area: South Yorkshire Social Services
Salary: £negotiable
Job Type: Locum
Contract length: Ongoing
Job details:  Occupational Therapist required to join an established team of Occupational Therapists who work to support disabled children, young people, and their families by completing assessments of need and recommending equipment and adaptations to support them in the home. Interventions include specialist seating, moving and handling, specialist equipment and major adaptations including Disabled Facilities Grants. Candidates will need to:

  • Be registered with the HCPC
  • Be passionate about working with children and young people, ideally with experience of working with children (in a professional capacity or otherwise)
  • Have knowledge and/or experience of children’s equipment and adaptation solutions.
  • Can manage and prioritise your case work.
  • Have great communication skills and can form positive relationships with a wide range of partner agencies.
  • Be able to work effectively in a team as well as being self-directed as an individual
  • Understand statutory legislation that underpins Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention in children’s social care.
  • Be a reflective practitioner with a commitment to supervision and professional development.
  • Have commitment and personal drive to achieve excellent outcomes for children, young people and their families.

  • Promote independence and reduce risks for Children with disabilities living in Doncaster. Work with the social model of disability and use evidencebased practice to carry out person centre assessments to identify need and take appropriate action. Use person centred methods that respect individual values, cultures and diversity to identify needs and devise individual interventions to meet need.  Where statutory provision is not appropriate offer information and advice around selfdirected support.
  • There is a requirement to provide a high quality, evidencebased, Integrated Community Equipment and Adaptations Service to people in their own homes which will be achieved by carrying a complex caseload and using a robust performance management framework to ensure effective service delivery by all officers working in the service.
  • This service is target driven with a clear focus on activity and performance. The post holder is required to meet performance targets, actively participate in the data capture process and report to the Advanced Practitioner/ Service Manager when targets are not met.
  • To provide expert clinical knowledge on manual handling issues and support other colleagues with the most complex manual handling cases.

Skills/experience: at least 5 years qualification. Experience with working with children in Social Care and hold a HCPC registration.
