Job details:  Complex Needs /Acute. Speech and Language Therapist required to start asap. In order to meet the needs of the Trust’s services the post holder may be required from time to time to work at different locations to their normal place of work. JD available on request:

  • The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, providing a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to children aged 0-5 and adolescents with dysphagia, social communication differences/autism and complex needs, across our acute and pre-school settings. The post holder will work with those with dysphagia and communication difficulties admitted to Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), as well as with pre-school children with complex needs within Harrow pre-school settings. They will work with children with a range of speech, language and communication, eating and drinking difficulties and Special Educational Needs (SEN). A significant proportion of these children will have language other than English.
  • The post holder will be expected to manage their own caseload, and work alongside medical and community colleagues to ensure the communication and eating and drinking needs are managed appropriately within the hospital environment and that highly specialist therapy programmes and education plans are in place for the children in home/pre-school settings.
  • They will have a key role in advising, supporting and supervising other SLTs working with children with complex needs and/or dysphagia. They will be expected to work collaboratively with children/young people (CYP), parents/carers and with MDT colleagues including within health, education or social services in the planning and delivery of services to these specific client groups.
  • The post holder will contribute to departmental meetings, and lead audit and projects within the specialist area. They will be responsible for planning and delivering highly specialist training to other SLTs, professionals and parents/carers on all aspects of complex communication areas relating to children with complex needs and eating/drinking difficulties. They will provide clinical education and training to Speech and Language Therapy students and provide clinical supervision to Speech and Language Therapy Assistants (SLTAs) and SLTs developing specialist skills in this field.
  • The post holder will receive peer support and clinical supervision from the SLT Principal within the neonatal therapies team and pre-school SLT team.

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week. Will consider part time / flexible working for the right candidate.
