    • This full-time post is for a band 7 Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) working across Berkshire within the Community Learning Disability Services (Adults).
    • You will be a source of expertise for the defined area of specialism and be able to support and develop colleagues working in the field and be a point of reference for colleagues and managers where advice may be requested/needed.
    • You will be skilled in the use of advanced assessment, diagnosis and treatment programmes with individual clients who have complex needs (physical health, mental health and/or behaviour that challenges).  You will be expected to work alongside other allied health professionals and external organisations within a focused multi-disciplinary team framework.
    • You will contribute to the development of service provision within their area of specialism alongside the Learning Disability Service operational team leads and professional leads. This includes ensuring best practice across the area of speciality and the service within Children, Families and All Age (CFAA) Division.

Occupational Therapist required to work in the community, building relationships to support adults to maximise their independence. The team are seeking a person centred, professionally qualified and HCPC registered Occupational Therapist. The role will be for 3 months initially but may extend to 6 months. There is an experienced management team who are committed to good support, advice, supervision, and a nurturing team ethos.
The post holder will be supported in their role by a wider network of Occupational Therapists including a dedicated Occupational Therapy service manager and dedicated Occupational Therapy senior practitioners.
There will be opportunities to work across a variety of areas including safeguarding, complex health needs, moving and handling, learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge, duty team responses, assistive technology, hospital liaison, housing and major adaptations among others.
As part of the multi-disciplinary Adult Care Team, the post holder will be required to take a strength-based approach to deliver a proportionate, personalised, safe and sustainable response for local adults, their carers, and families.
A positive approach to risk taking, personal resilience and the ability to contribute to inter agency and multi-disciplinary approaches both across the council and in other statutory bodies are key to this role.
Skills/experience:

• Be registered with the HCPC.
• Have experience of working in a Local Authority.
• Have knowledge and/or experience of working within a person centred, holistic and strengths-based way.
• Have knowledge and/or experience in assessing a person’s activities of daily living.
• Have knowledge and/or experience of physical, learning disabilities and/or mental health conditions and the impact on occupational performance.
• Have knowledge and/or experience of equipment and adaptation solutions, and experience of DFG provision.
• Have the ability to manage and prioritise your casework.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to form positive relationships with a wide range of partner professionals and agencies.
• Have good time management skills and be highly motivated.
• Have an understanding of statutory legislation that underpins Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention in adult social care and health.
• Be a reflective practitioner with a commitment to supervision and professional development working within relevant codes of conduct.
• Have knowledge and/or experience of safeguarding principles and how these are embedded in everyday practice.

Complex cases can involve moving and handling. No major adaptions or housing but can access minor adaptions. Skills/experience:

  • People with good moving and handling knowledge and single handed knowledge
  • Have good, solid assessment and guidance and is able to produce quick turn around
  • Ability to work well with care agencies and working well with carers, setting up therapy programs, etc
  • Experience in supporting and guiding new staff would be a plus but is not essential
  • Need to have a few years of experience to hit the ground running. Will not accept newly qualified OTs
  • Open to other backgrounds if they have transferrable skills with rehabilitation or reablement

Hybrid: one day in the office policy a week. No set days to work for part time, but ideally would be beginning of the week)
Ideally local enough to do visits and observational assessments

  • self-allocation system for visits so number of visits can be variable
  • Need to have ability to do some early hours visits (ex: 7am on occasion)

MUST be able to drive own car.
Working hours: There is funding for 53 hours so could be 1 person full time (37 hours) + 1 person part time (16 hours) or 2 x part time at around 26.5 hours each.
