Job details: Occupational Therapist required to start asap for 6 weeks to cover vacancy. Children’s occupational therapy community complex needs – mainstream and Special school. Skills/experience: experience of working with children with physical disabilities aged 5-11 in both mainstream and special schools setting. The role will include the following:
The OT will hold a specialist caseload of children with physical disabilities, profound and multiple learning difficulties within a special school setting, along with providing support for children with within the mainstream school setting.
The OT will need to have good knowledge of working with children with physical disabilities and the prescription of specialist equipment in the educational setting to include specialist seating and moving and handling equipment. For example: specialist seating, slings and hoisting
It will involve the review of CYP in both clinic and school in to provide both therapy programmes and to up skill parents and staff.
The role allows for a high level of MDT working, with PT/SLT, within the specialist settings.
He/she will be expected to manage their own caseload, travelling between schools working alongside teaching staff to ensure highly specialist therapy programmes are in place for the children under their care. He/she will be expected to work collaboratively with children/young people (CYP), parents/carers and with colleagues in Health, Education and Social Services, in service planning, policy and delivery of services to this specific client group.
The role will possibly include assessment of children including reports writing and the provision of therapy programmes
The role will also involve working jointly alongside a band 6 therapist to provide clinical support during therapy sessions for children with physical disabilities.
This is an MDT team of over 60 therapists consisting of SLTs/ PTs and OTs. This is role is based on a set caseload. It is essential that the OT has experience of working in both the NHS and the education system. This is a face-to-face role. Working hours: Full time. 37.5 hours per week. 08.30 – 16.30. Part time working or flexible working may be considered
